Manihi is a veritable island paradise, a picture postcard atoll with a lagoon in all the shades of turquoise and blue. Ideal for scuba diving and snorkeling, the lagoon is also perfect for the cultivation of one of French Polynesia’s most precious treasures: Tahitian black pearls.
Dive sites in Manihi
There is much to explore in the warm, clear, turquoise water beneath the waves in Manihi. Superb coral reefs and an extraordinary diversity of marine life from sea turtles to tropical fish.

Turipaoa Pass
It’s the only pass in Manihi’s reef.*and is home to graceful and majestic manta rays. Experienced divers can descend to a depth of about 25 meters and drift dive into or out of the lagoon, depending on the current. During the full moon in the month of June, groupers arrive by the thousand to reproduce and schools of ‘ature (a type of mackerel) attract the attention of hungry gray sharks.
The Circus
Divers who are experienced enough to cope with the agitated waters in The Circus will be able to observe the majestic ballet of manta rays. Parts of the site are inside the lagoon at a depth of 7 or 8 meters. You don’t need to chase after the rays; just wait where you are and they’ll swim over to you.
