Le Saturday 26 October à 19h30
Place To'ata Boulevard Pomare IV To'ata 98714 Papeete
Event organized by SA Productions, Radio 1 & Tiare FM.
There are bands that time has preserved and that popular memory even tends to sublimate. Dire Straits is one of them. So, to make this English jewel shine ad vitam æternam, Chris White has decided to bring Mark Knopfler's finest songs back to life!
For the very first time in Tahiti, Dire Straits Experience is set to blow a rock storm over the To’ata arena. On Saturday, October 26, 2024, Chris White and six internationally acclaimed musicians will lift the Polynesian public and bring the legendary London band of the 1980s back to life.

REKINDLING THE FLAME

Dire Straits, the jewel in the crown of rock, was a happy industrial accident of the kind that sometimes happens on British soil. No one, ever, would have believed that these wild young adults from Deptford were going to rock the loudspeakers of the free world, going against the grain of the trends of the time. With Mark Knopfler as frontman, the band succeeded in plastering an English-style rock that, as a matter of course, will never die.

Even today, their bold melodies resonate, carried by the crystalline sound of Knopfler’s Fender Stratocaster. Their effectiveness grips the soul, and their wandering state of mind makes you want to run away at the top of your lungs. How good it is to crack open the vinyl, so alive is the music of Dire Straits. But we sometimes miss the scent of the stage to stay immersed, for centuries and centuries, in this spirit that soothes our hearts. So Chris White, Mark Knopfler’s former playing partner, decided to take matters into his own hands and don his suit to pay faithful homage to his pals of yesteryear. With him, time seems to have stood still, as if motionless with ecstasy and admiration, before the musical nuggets of these heroes from the suburbs of London.

Admittedly, under the spotlight, the guys aren’t the same, but everything is respected to the letter, as if to rekindle a flame ready to ignite our second youth. Yesterday’s mad energy is combined with the present, under the weight of those masterful riffs that made Dire Straits’ reputation. We celebrate the work, transcended by Sultans of Swing or Walk Of Life. What a pleasure it is to breathe in that British air that makes us fly, leap after leap, meters above the ground. More than a tribute band, The Dire Straits Experience revisits the finest chapters in the quartet’s wild adventure.

CHRIS WHITE:
Dire Straits had already reached the top when Mark Knopfler called on saxophonist Chris White for the Live Aid concert at Wembley. The Bristol-born musician went on to tour with the Brothers in Arms album. Chris White forgets nothing of this period. His love for the Dire Straits sound will endure, even after the band’s split.

DIRE STRAITS EXPERIENCE :
The project was originally conceived by three ex-Dire Straits who wanted to revive their old repertoire for a charity concert. But gradually, only Chris White, the band’s saxophonist between 1985 and 1992, stayed on. Now master on board, he is accompanied by six musicians, including guitarist Terence Reis.

WORLD TOUR :
Dire Straits’ popularity has never waned. So when Chris White’s tribute band hits the road, venues fill up with the speed of a relentless riff. Paris, Rotterdam, Sydney: the whole world remains under the spell of the energetic tunes of this English band that became one of the icons of eighties frenzy.
