Cathédrale De Saint Michel

The architectural treasure of Mangareva
The majestic Saint Michel Cathedral stands in the heart of the municipality of Rikitea. This impressive monument was built thanks to the determination of missionaries, notably Father Laval. Built with coral stone covered with coral lime, its construction took two years (1839-1841). The interior was once blue and white and is decorated with mother-of-pearl carvings done by local craftsmen.
