Grotte Du Lézard

The Maupiti Lizard Cave, a legendary detour.
The Lizard Cave is located around Tereia Beach and is easily accessible. This cave was called so in reference to its legend.

A small lizard lived in this cave and was fed by a young girl from the island. Over time, the animal had grown so much that the girl got scared of being eaten one day and fled. The large lizard took affection, decided to follow her, but fatigue forced him to rest on the island of Moorea, where the rays of the sun colored its clear sale yellow. Hence the name of Mo’o Rea (the yellow lizard). Finally the lizard not managing to find the young girl, decided to come back to (his island) the beach of Tereia near his bowl to die there.
