Baie De Cook (Baie De Pao Pao)

A magnificent setting between land and sea.
The bay of Pao Pao is one of the main bays in the island of Moorea. The pass which leads into the bay is called Teavaroa (long passage) because of its large opening out to the ocean. The bay was baptized "Cook Bay" during the third voyage of Captain James Cook in 1777.
The scenery is magnificent, with lush green mountains contrasting with the royal blue of the sea for several kilometers. Cook Bay is also a favored anchorage for yachtsmen and women wishing to stretch their legs on dry land. You can visit the bay on your own or as part of an excursion.
According to legend, Pao Pao is the upper part of the fin of the fish which swam from Raiatea to become Tahiti and Moorea.
