Following the 1962-63 excavations by Sinoto, several 8th century remains were discovered – the oldest remains discovered to date, along with those found at Bali Hai in Huahine. The finds include adzes and a sperm whale tooth necklace. It would belong to an important Maori chiefess, symbol of the cultural bridge between Polynesia and Aotearoa (New Zealand).
